'Let those who don't know listen' he said, and the debate began: Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks on Atatürk become a hot topic

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the position of CHP Chairman following the "absolute nullity" decision by the appellate court, addressed party members at the "Public Holiday Greeting" program held at the CHP Headquarters.

Giving various political messages during the holiday program, Kılıçdaroğlu touched upon Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's National Struggle process in a part of his speech.

HE SAID "WHEN ATATÜRK WAS ARRIVING IN SAMSUN..."

Describing the period when Atatürk set off for Samsun to initiate the War of Independence during his speech, Kılıçdaroğlu used the following expressions:

"When our great leader Atatürk was arriving in Samsun, he had a death warrant around his neck and a declaration of treason over his name."

Following this statement by Kılıçdaroğlu, the history of the death sentence issued against Atatürk came back to the agenda.

According to historical records, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun on May 19, 1919. The death sentence against Atatürk, however, was issued by the Martial Law Court (Divan-ı Harp) in Istanbul on May 24, 1920.

For this reason, the expressions used by Kılıçdaroğlu in his speech became a subject of debate on social media.

Journalist Bülent Mumay also shared his assessment regarding the words in Kılıçdaroğlu's speech on his social media account.

In his post, Mumay drew attention to the difference between the date Atatürk arrived in Samsun and the date the death sentence was issued against him.
