Long queues at AKP buildings: 'No bonus for retirees, but pocket money is being handed out'
The AKP has once again fixed the holiday bonus for retirees at 4,000 liras this year. İYİ Party member Turhan Çömez shared footage of long queues at the AKP Osmaniye Provincial Headquarters on his social media account, asking, 'There is no bonus for retirees, but is pocket money being distributed at party buildings?'
While the impact of inflation and the high cost of living on retirees increases with each passing day, the hopes of retirees for a holiday bonus increase were dashed once again this year. While 17 million retirees were waiting with bated breath for a raise in their holiday bonuses, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler did not include any bonus increase in the 19-article legislative proposal he submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament. Güler announced that the holiday bonus would remain at 4,000 liras this year.
STRIKING POST FROM İYİ PARTY'S ÇÖMEZ
Following the failure of the holiday bonus to meet expectations, İYİ Party Balıkesir MP Turhan Çömez shared a striking video on his social media account. Sharing the video showing long queues at the AKP Osmaniye Provincial Headquarters, Çömez stated, 'Is the AKP, which does not give holiday bonuses to retirees, distributing holiday pocket money at party buildings? I wonder how much is in the envelopes, 1,500 TL? Was this what the AKP marketed as the Century of Turkey?'
QUEUES AT THE PARTY BUILDING DREW ATTENTION
In the video shared by Çömez, it was observed that citizens formed long queues at the AKP Osmaniye Provincial Headquarters building. The video spread rapidly on social media and received significant attention. The İYİ Party deputy emphasized that distributing money at AKP buildings despite the lack of a bonus increase is an unfair situation for retired citizens.
RETIREES WERE HOPEFUL FOR A HOLIDAY BONUS
The 17 million retirees in Turkey, who are going through difficult times due to inflation and the high cost of living, were eagerly awaiting an increase in their holiday bonuses. However, the legislative proposal submitted by the AKP for 2023 did not contain any proposal for an increase for retirees. Retirees will have to make do with the 4,000 lira holiday bonus again this year.
