Lütfü Savaş's statement on 'candidacy': 'I will not cower, I will not give up...'

In Hatay, one of the provinces most affected by the February 6 earthquakes, Mayor Lütfü Savaş was protested by citizens on the anniversary of the earthquake. Additionally, chants of 'resign' were directed at Savaş. 

Savaş announced in a press statement today that he would not withdraw his candidacy. 

Savaş stated the following:

"We clearly know the games that are being attempted in Hatay. We also know that it is not desired for Hatay to be governed by a CHP mayor. I want to share that I will not remain silent about the refugee occupation in Hatay, I will not allow zoning rent, and I will not surrender Hatay to threats. As a result, I will not be afraid, I will not cower, I will not give up. If this soul leaves this body, what will become of us"

"WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE PM"

CHP PM member Ali Haydar Fırat, on the other hand, stated in a television program he attended that other candidates might come to the agenda, saying:

"We have argued that politics against the will of the people is not possible.

Among our current candidates, he was the candidate who received the most support. 

Ultimately, we observed a very vivid reaction.

We will discuss it once more at the Party Assembly. Other candidates may come to the agenda.

The re-candidacy process can be re-discussed; it will be re-evaluated at the Party Assembly that will meet on Friday or Saturday."
