Mahir Polat transferred from Silivri Prison to hospital

It has been reported that Mahir Polat, Deputy Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), who is being held at Silivri Prison, has been transferred to a hospital.

Mahir Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, stated in a post on his social media account, "They are transferring Mahir Bey to the hospital. We have not yet been able to confirm which hospital it is."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Polat had previously been taken to the hospital twice, and during his last hospital transfer, he underwent an angiography. Following the procedure, Polat was sent back to Silivri Prison.

WHO IS MAHİR POLAT?

Born in Erzincan in 1976, Mahir Polat is a graduate of the Department of Archaeology and Art History at Istanbul University's Faculty of Letters.

He holds a Master's degree in Architectural History from ITU,

A Master's degree with thesis in Museology from YTU,

And is continuing his doctoral studies at Istanbul University.

Throughout his career:

He served as a Foundation Specialist at the General Directorate of Foundations.

He held the positions of Director of the Atatürk Museum and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts.

He has played an active role in institutions such as the History Foundation and Europa Nostra Turkey.

Polat is an academic and practitioner specializing in cultural heritage conservation, museology, social memory, and architectural history.
