Major backlash on social media to Kılıçdaroğlu's 'purification' message

The three-and-a-half-minute video published by former Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on his personal X account has become a topic of discussion due to his call for "purification" and "internal accounting" directed at party members and voters. However, the video quickly became the focus of controversy on social media. While the video reached one million views, it did not go unnoticed that it received only four thousand likes, while gathering more than nine thousand comments. The vast majority of the messages in the comments consisted of negative and critical expressions.

When the thousands of comments under the post were analyzed with the support of artificial intelligence, it was determined that an overwhelming majority of users displayed a negative approach toward the video. Reactions concentrated particularly on the following topics:

• Calls for Kılıçdaroğlu to leave active politics,
• Comments emphasizing disappointment regarding the defeats in past elections,
• Individual grievances expressing a loss of trust and emotional detachment,
• Accusations of weakening the opposition and providing indirect support to the government.

Many comments included direct personal expressions such as "I do not grant my forgiveness" and "I no longer have any respect left."

One of the most criticized aspects of Kılıçdaroğlu's video was the political atmosphere of the period in which it was published. During a process where operations against CHP-run municipalities and government pressures are being discussed, Kılıçdaroğlu shifting the focus to problems within the party was not found appropriate by voters.

In the video in question, Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "The CHP is not a legacy left to us. Our party is a sacred trust to us. A trust cannot be tainted, a trust cannot be smeared. The shadow of this great plane tree can never, ever be a sanctuary for the illicit and the corrupted. It knows how to purify itself when necessary, and it knows how to conduct its internal accounting."

However, the emphasis on "purification" and "internal accounting" within the party while external pressures continue has increased the reaction of opposition voters. Thousands of people on social media harshly criticized both the message and the timing of the message.
