Mansur Yavaş reacts to police blockade of CHP

As tensions continue following the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Headquarters, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş issued a statement on social media to react to the situation.

In his statement, Yavaş said, "On what grounds can it be explained that our party members are being prevented from entering our own provincial building? What decision could serve as a basis for this?" Yavaş emphasized that democracy only gains meaning through the rule of law and the protection of fundamental rights.

Yavaş's post is as follows:

"On what grounds can it be explained that our party members are being prevented from entering our provincial headquarters, which is our own party building? What decision could serve as a basis for this?

I will not stop saying it: Democracy only gains meaning through the rule of law and the safeguarding of fundamental rights. The principle of the rule of law requires that all state organs act in a way that is free from arbitrariness and bound by the constitution and laws.

In a true democracy, the judiciary is independent, the press is free, and citizens' rights are inviolable. It should not be forgotten that democracy cannot exist without the rule of law, and the rule of law cannot exist without democracy.

Unfortunately, Turkey is rapidly moving away from this universal standard.

Let us not forget, justice is necessary for everyone, without exception!"
