Mansur Yavaş shares the latest poll he received: '67 percent...'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş attended the 34th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the OSTİM Industrialists and Business People Association (OSİAD).

"THEY MUST ENDURE THE HARSHES CRITICISM"

Addressing industrialists and business people at the meeting held at the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Conference Hall, Yavaş said:

''Süleyman Bey stated his demands a moment ago. He has also provided these demands to the press. He has both listed the work they have done and written down what they expect from the government for the industrialists and business people of OSTİM. Now, there could have been criticism in this, right? You could have said, 'You are doing this wrong.' Well, if you say this, the prosecutor's office immediately opens an investigation against you, and if they give this to the press, you will never be able to explain your troubles to anyone from then on. However, as Fethi President said a moment ago, everyone can be criticized and critiqued. This is how we will find the right path. In fact, I sometimes say this to my politician friends... When you go to a coffee house, sometimes a citizen there complains to you about something. The person complaining usually knows the solution as well. When you ask that person who is complaining, 'What should we do?', they give you the answer. Sometimes you listen and realize it is the most practical, easiest solution that didn't come to your mind at that moment. Therefore, it is certainly a right for non-governmental organizations to express their freedom of speech, demands, and criticisms today.''

Mansur Yavaş continued as follows:

''We signed the European Convention on Human Rights. Freedom of expression, freedom of the press, they are all there. And since we signed it, we will comply. According to the relevant article of the European Convention on Human Rights, people in the public eye, especially politicians and artists, must endure such criticism, the harshest criticism. All their rulings say this is not a crime, and all the complaints we make result in non-prosecution. We have now adopted this; since our government signed this convention, we have adopted it, endured it, and continue to endure it. There is nothing to be done.”

"THERE MUST ABSOLUTELY BE A PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM"

Stating that a parliamentary system must absolutely exist, Yavaş said:

“I mentioned the complaints about the law in recent days a moment ago. As both a lawyer and an administrator, I want to explain why such complaints are made and where the mistake lies. Now, there must absolutely be a parliamentary system. We saw what happens when there is no parliamentary system. In the poll that reached me yesterday, it says 67 percent want a return to the parliamentary system. Because a person's power and strength are not enough for anything. To manage alone, to have all information gathered in one person, even if it were a computer, it would explode. If it were a computer, it couldn't handle it. I see this even in the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which is on a much smaller scale than government administration... Many of our tasks are delayed. If you leave it to the personnel to do it and they make a mistake, that mistake is attributed to you...

The remedy for this is something that should exist in all developed countries in the world. Governments will be transparent. All administrators will be transparent. They will be participatory. They will be accountable. That is, you will be able to see their programs in their budgets for every job they do, and you will also be able to hold them accountable. The whole of Europe has found the system for this. You know, recently, a child had to resign because they used something from the ministry they managed, let's say a photocopy or a computer. It turned out a minister went to dinner with a ministry car and had to resign. Now, it seems so strange to us, right? But when you look at those places, you see their national income. They are far superior to us. Now, let me announce this as well.

When they came to us from Mozambique for a sister municipality, they said they had a 5,000-housing project. They also said they wanted to build a shopping mall and that they had mines, and they asked for a delegation from us. Suddenly, this came to my mind. We have industrialists who trade or export in many parts of Africa. Now, when we take someone to Mozambique, the first thing that comes to your mind is, 'Will I be able to get my money? Will I have trouble?', right? Why? Because we don't know what the democracy and legal system are like there, how developed they are, or we see the problems experienced in many similar places, right? Well, if the same housing project were in any European country, would you have the slightest concern? This is the difference between law and democracy and state administration. We need to listen to the rule of law more. We need to ensure this.''

TÜSİAD STATEMENT

ABB Mayor Yavaş also reacted to the investigation launched against TÜSİAD High Advisory Council President Ömer Arif Aras, stating the following:

''Banks have legal principles. We, as a state, have adopted this too. It says the judge will be impartial, will be independent. But it says they will also make people feel this impartiality and independence through their actions. That is, I say no servant of God should worry, 'If I fall into the judiciary tomorrow, will politics or something else get involved, will they influence the judge, and will I not be able to get my rights here?' We accepted these rules. Now, where does the problem here stem from? President Süleyman gave a statement to the press. First of all, let me say this. It is not that no one can be tried. We are shouting this.

We are not exempt from being tried, including us. We want to be tried. Let it come out, let us be cleared if we have a crime. We are not afraid of anything, we are giving our account. Therefore, TÜSİAD is not exempt from being tried, not exempt from being criticized, but TÜSİAD makes a statement. If the Prosecutor's Office starts proceedings half an hour later and this is heard from the pro-government media, the meaning of this for everyone is: 'Don't speak, friends, let no one speak.' Well, if no one speaks, where will we find the truth? How will we know if no one speaks? They will speak. You can give a harsher answer. However, silencing people with the judiciary like this and the climate created in recent days really brings the concern that Turkey can no longer be invested in. Why is it happening? Why? Because it happens like this there. They have difficulty understanding.

They are right because we have signed the European Convention on Human Rights with them. We said let's work together. That is what I mean. If it happens like this, I believe that the businesses of OSTİM's businessmen will go much more smoothly. And I hope this parliamentary system is my wish. If we return to it, I hope we will reach beautiful days together by ensuring judicial independence, which will make everything a bit more appropriate for me again. If we deny our must-haves, this is what we encounter. For example, why is the exchange rate kept fixed? Won't you go and talk to Mr. Şimşek about this? You will.

Won't you discuss the damages this causes you? You will. Of course, you will state this demand. If he doesn't do it, you will have to say it in front of the press in some way. This is how we will find the right path together. My goal is not to criticize anyone in one way or another, but as both an administrator and a lawyer, I just stated my ideas. I hope it contributes in some way."
