Mansur Yavaş, who doubled his rival's vote, makes 'Municipal Council' decision: 'The first thing I will say...'
CHP's Mansur Yavaş, who was re-elected as Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality with 60.44 percent of the vote, explained his plans for the new term.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş had finished with a 28.76 percent lead over his rival Turgut Altınok.
Describing his new term in Ankara, Yavaş spoke to Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PREVIOUS TERM?
Stating that the election process went smoothly, Yavaş also said the following regarding the approach of district mayors in the previous term:
“The district mayors had an attitude of ‘Let’s not ask for anything from Mr. Mansur, so he cannot do it and cannot gain points.’ They acted with a logic that is beyond imagination. However, they did a disservice to their own districts; services were not provided. Frankly, I did not want to make a wrong investment. I built social facilities such as family life centers, etc. We could have worked better, but unfortunately, it was not accepted.
We could have worked more efficiently with the district municipalities. The first thing I will say to the Municipal Council will be this: There are 16 mayors from the CHP, 8 from other parties, and one independent mayor. I will tell them, ‘Come, let us join hands; let us work together to support whatever needs to be done in your districts.’ Because those who showed different attitudes have disappeared from politics. I had told them, ‘If you do not take my hand, I will go and complain about you to the public when election time comes tomorrow.’ During the election period, I truly complained about them everywhere I went.
They did not take my hand, they did not come to my office. I even gave 2-3 examples; they were told, ‘Do not let Mr. Mansur do it, do it yourself.’ The late Mayor of Ayaş had said, ‘It is forbidden for us to meet with Mr. Mansur.’ Yet, I had served as his son's lawyer in the past. These are all the results of those attitudes.”
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN ANKARA'S NEW TERM?
Yavaş also said the following regarding the new term:
“At the very least, we have requests that have been pending and postponed in the Municipal Council. They will emerge immediately, and the new district mayors will naturally change our course regarding these. Because we do not know the shortcomings of those who did not meet with us. Now we will be able to see what is missing there. We will now also see what shortcomings exist in the municipalities we have newly won. Therefore, while we are already carrying out the projects we have on hand, we will also try to rush to meet the demands coming from those districts.”
