The mayor had resigned from the CHP! An honorable move from his deputy

The political agenda in the Serik district of Antalya has become active. The resignation of Serik Mayor Kadir Kumbul from the Republican People's Party (CHP) has caused ripples in the district. The first resignation within the municipality came from one of Kumbul's colleagues, Deputy Mayor Mehmet Balık. Balık announced his decision to step down from his position to the public.

While allegations that Kadir Kumbul will join the Justice and Development Party (AKP) remain fresh, the resignation statement from Mehmet Balık has opened the door to a new era in the municipality. Balık evaluated the process and his decision with the following words:

"Mayor Kadir resigned; I assume he will join the AK Party. I am leaving my post. Naturally, it would not be right for me to be a deputy mayor alongside an AK Party mayor. This is politics; we don't know the intrigues behind it very well. Why did he switch, how did it happen? Did the AKP threaten him?"

Balık continued: "As far as we are concerned, there was no irregularity. I don't think Mayor Kadir would make a mistake. It means there is something going on. There is either a threat or an accusation being carried out by the ruling power that led to this point."

On the other hand, Balık emphasized that he would not compromise on his party or his stance: "That is why I and many of my friends are Republican People's Party members; we will continue here. We will not change under any circumstances."

Pointing out that there could be movement among the Municipal Council members as well, Balık noted the following regarding the resignation allegations: "They are writing and drawing that the council members will resign, but it is not as they say. There are definitely names who will switch, but I don't think it's 8-9 people; it could be 3-4 people, which is natural."

This development in Serik Municipality indicates that new moves may occur in district politics in the coming period.
