Meral Akşener's Ankara plan revealed! What did she say after the GİK meeting?

As the March 31, 2024 local elections approach, political parties have accelerated their efforts. The İYİ Party General Administrative Board's (GİK) decision to reject the CHP's proposal for cooperation in the local elections by a majority vote continues to occupy the political agenda.

PROVINCIAL ORGANIZATIONS SAID "COOPERATION," GİK REJECTED IT

Despite the İYİ Party's provincial and district organizations telling Akşener to "let's cooperate," the GİK's rejection of the proposal has caused controversy within the party.

CONCERNS OVER ISTANBUL AND ANKARA IN THE İYİ PARTY

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, some İYİ Party officials are concerned that if provinces like Istanbul and Ankara, which were won in 2019, are lost in the March 31 local elections, the İYİ Party will be held responsible for the outcome. Noting that voters will remain loyal to cooperation at the ballot box, the officials also point out that the election process could result in a disadvantage for the İYİ Party.

DISTURBED BY CRITICISM

On the other hand, many officials who emphasize that "the decision is risky, but the party must now exist on its own" state that they are disturbed by the harsh criticism coming from the opposition wing. Stating that the İYİ Party is an "independent" party with its own ideology, separate from the CHP, the officials assert that the decision to enter the elections separately should be respected. Stating that the decision is being evaluated one-sidedly, the officials also note that the statements of those who said "no" to cooperation are not being taken into account.

The officials state that the criticism directed at their party by figures close to the CHP will lead to polarization.

'I WILL VOTE ON ANKARA AGAIN'

It is suggested that Akşener's harsh rhetoric regarding the "alliance" will continue due to the criticism coming from the CHP. A high-level İYİ Party official also highlighted that as General Chair Meral Akşener was leaving the GİK meeting where she put the "cooperation" proposal to a vote, she said, "I will vote on Ankara again," and commented, "I believe the general chair will fulfill this promise."
