Meral Akşener speaks clearly on local election results

When a journalist reminded Akşener during her shopkeeper visit of Mansur Yavaş's remarks suggesting that her call for him and Ekrem İmamoğlu to run for president was insincere, Akşener said the following:

"We took a big risk. We are appearing before you, and before the gentlemen, on our own. If we can persuade you, we will get votes; if we cannot, we will not get your votes.

On top of that, I did something no other leader has done to date. Let's assume you didn't vote for us. I will return to my home. I will not be involved in politics at all. Is there anything beyond that? I have put myself on the line."

Akşener continued her speech as follows:

"The citizens wanted and loved Mansur Yavaş, and both of them equally. Therefore, they came out on top of everyone in all the polls. We proposed their candidacy. Cowardice cannot be masked by talking about ethics, morality, and so on.

Come on, Mr. İmamoğlu was a party member, a true party member, I have nothing to say to that. I mean, he had the opportunity to walk a path within his party. He can say no, I understand that. But Mr. Mansur Yavaş is not a member of the Republican People's Party.

As a matter of fact, he did not manage the municipality with members of the Republican People's Party either. Now, when viewed within this framework, he should have taken a risk. If it were me, I would have taken it. Look, I have put my political life on the line for my party today.

Now, within such a framework, what would happen if he had said 'I am a candidate'? He says, 'If I had been a candidate, I would have won.' Yes, he would have won. Now, turning around and throwing all the blame on Meral Akşener is hiding cowardice."
