MHP Deputy Chairman Yönter: We will either close the Constitutional Court or restructure it
As the tension between the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court continues, politicians continue to make statements on the matter. The latest statement regarding the ongoing tension came from a high-ranking MHP official.
MHP Deputy Chairman Dr. İzzet Ulvi Yönter was a guest on a live broadcast on tv100.
In his statement there, Yönter used remarks that could be considered scandalous regarding the tension between the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court.
Yönter said, "The terrorists whose heads we crush in the mountains and on the rocks are entering the Constitutional Court (AYM) through the back door. A lifeline is being thrown to them by the AYM. We will either close it or restructure it. The tradition of the AYM emerged after World War II. The AYM has effectively rendered Article 14 of the Constitution dysfunctional."
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation refused to comply with the 'violation of rights' ruling by the Constitutional Court regarding TİP MP Can Atalay and filed a criminal complaint against the members of the AYM.
While AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also expressed support for the Court of Cassation, CHP leader Özgür Özel described the situation as a 'coup'.
