MHP leader calls on Erdoğan to 'run again'! 'He has no right to back down'

MHP Chairman and People's Alliance partner Devlet Bahçeli commented on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's words, "I have no concern about being re-elected or running again," by stating, "A President whose concern is the homeland and the nation has no right to back down from his path."

Bahçeli's statement is as follows:

"IT IS AT A DEGREE AND LEVEL THAT WILL WORRY THE ENEMIES OF TURKEY"

"The picture of a Turkey that is rising, overcoming insurmountable obstacles as it rises, and simultaneously lightening the burdens that have long since become a hump on its back, is at a degree and level that will please friends and worry enemies. National hearts, whose mortar is mixed with love for the homeland and the nation, feel pride and satisfaction in this clear and concrete reality.

On the path of the Century of Turkey that we are walking step by step, our hopes are alive, our goals are great, and our enthusiasm and excitement are limitless.

"OUR NATION'S ASPIRATIONS ARE NO LONGER JUST A DREAM"

In this context, I sincerely state that the service of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and his self-sacrificing and dignified struggle that turns night into day, are beyond any praise. The Republic of Turkey has gained a very strong momentum for the first time. Despite the emergence of new problem areas, a management approach that locks onto the horizon, grasps national ideals with competence on an economic-political plane, and correctly reads and interprets the coming century has, thank God, been established. Our nation's aspirations are no longer just a dream. A sincere, honest, and principled political stance is being staged to reach the great and superpower Turkey of the future with determined, principled, high-quality, and faithful political moves.

"THERE ARE MORE SERVICES FOR OUR PRESIDENT TO RENDER"

The future belongs to Turkey and the Turkish nation. Independence will be preserved and defended with the support and prayers that the People's Alliance receives from our noble nation. There are more services for our President to render. Turning history backward is irrational. Falling behind history is equivalent to collapse.

For this reason, the statement made by our President at the end of his visit to Hungary, "I have no concern about running again," is not, in our view, a fair and equitable declaration of state. It is an indisputable historical and life reality that the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish nation are in great need of Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has drawn the roadmap for the new century. A President whose concern is the homeland and the nation has no right to back down from his path. Moreover, this situation is not compatible with the country's current conditions, nor with regional and global developments.

"THERE ARE STAGES TO BE OVERCOME IN A TERROR-FREE TURKEY"

There are many stages to be overcome in a terror-free Turkey. It is beyond any explanation that there is much we will do together regarding the rooting of the Presidential Government System with its institutions and rules. It is an impossible dream for the Nationalist Movement Party and the People's Alliance to have a conscience and political morality that would turn a blind eye to the hand-rubbing of crisis and chaos-mongering political merchants who are curious about fishing in troubled waters, to the escalation of their ambitions for destruction, or to their lying in wait to demolish what has been built.

"ERDOĞAN'S PRESENCE IS OF INDISPENSABLE VALUE AND IMPORTANCE"

The arrow that Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has pulled from his quiver and released must reach its target. For this, the presence of his state-personage is of indispensable value and importance."

WHAT DID PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN SAY?

When asked by journalists on the plane returning from Hungary, "Why does Turkey need a new constitution? Do you think there is a consensus in Parliament and in society to create Turkey's second civilian constitution 101 years after the 1924 Constitution? Do you believe that the importance of a new constitution, that is, a civilian constitution, is understood?" President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan replied: Turkey is changing, the world is changing. We are living in a new era, we are moving towards a newer era. In a world that is changing so rapidly, is it possible to get anywhere with a constitution of the old Turkey, which was prepared under the conditions of a coup, and which, no matter how many changes are made, still wanders through the lines of the coup-plotting mentality? Don't we see by living it for 40 years how difficult it is to unite society with a constitution written by coup plotters? Is there anyone who does not know that the coup constitution is at the root of many of the problems we face today? Throughout my political life, I have expressed that Turkey needs a civilian, democratic, and libertarian constitution. I am at the same point today. Turkey can no longer walk into the future with a constitution written by coup plotters, put forward by coup plotters. We no longer need a constitution put forward by coup plotters, but by civilians. For this, we as the AK Party are working on it. We have also given tasks to some of our friends regarding this. The whole issue is, will the Republican People's Party also embark on a journey with us to create a joint, common civilian constitution? That is what is important. We say; let's join hands. Let's establish our commissions and together with these commissions, let's create the civilian constitution as soon as possible and present it to our nation. Let it be both national and local. May Turkey hopefully see and experience such a constitution. There is no reason for it not to happen. There is no problem regarding the first four articles. That is, as the AK Party, we do not have such a problem, and almost most of the other political parties do not have such a problem either. Since there is no problem regarding the first four articles, we will only determine the roadmap. We can form our delegations quickly. We did such work during my Prime Ministry, we can do it again, it won't take much of our time.

We want the new constitution not for ourselves, but for our country. I have no concern about being re-elected or running again. Our concern is how we can raise the prestige of our country with the steps we will take.

Currently, Turkey's national income has reached a strong position, thank God. What were the figures when we took office, where are the figures now? You look at exports, thank God we have reached the level of 265-270 billion dollars in exports. On the other hand, our per capita national income has skyrocketed compared to those years. Our reserves have also started to climb. Our treasury is currently strong in terms of foreign exchange reserves."
