MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli explains why he shook hands with DEM Party MPs

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli spoke in Ankara at the 20th Term Education and Training Year Opening Ceremony of his party's "Politics and Leadership School."

SİNAN ATEŞ CASE

The case has proceeded through judicial elements. The first phase has concluded. We respect the decision of the judiciary. I would also like to express that I condemn the perspectives that strive to question and disparage the MHP. Various elements have come to this meeting and made suggestions that would enable the questioning of the MHP. These things should not happen in Turkish justice.

THERE IS A RING OF FIRE AROUND US

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) opened on October 1. There, our President made a valuable speech, expressing the historical emphasis of the Parliament and evaluating its status as a veteran institution and its perspective.

In the final part, he also extended an invitation for solidarity, peace, and intelligent work in the TBMM. After this invitation, as the chairman of the MHP, it is my duty to take a step in response to the call of the People's Alliance and the President of the Turkish nation.

If the MHP does not take a step, it would not be right to expect anything from others. That is why I went to them and shook hands with those whose ideas I do not accept and who have rhetoric of standing with the extensions of the PKK terrorist organization.

I was pleased to see these approaches at the Parliament's reception as well. Many political parties honored the Parliament's reception, and a smiling face prevailed there too. Steps are being taken to keep this smiling face moving. It is not right to corner the MHP with such narrow rhetoric; one must think carefully about the steps it takes.

There is no need to be an instrument of chaos or crisis. I condemn the People's Party (CHP), which still contributes to these debates and continues its hostility toward the MHP on television. I also condemn their television channels. There is a ring of fire around Turkey; they should not stoke the fire."
