MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's take on local elections: 'The national will has not been fully and completely reflected in the ballot box'
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made evaluations regarding the local elections during his party's group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Targeting the CHP with harsh words and responding to CHP leader Özgür Özel's remarks that they had "broken the glass ceiling," Bahçeli said, 'The national will has not been fully and completely reflected in the ballot box.'
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made statements regarding the agenda at his party's group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Stating that his party emerged successfully from the local elections, Bahçeli also responded to the CHP and CHP leader Özgür Özel.
Key highlights from MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli's statements are as follows:
"Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation. Whatever the nation decides, our respect is full and unquestionable. Our commitment to democracy is not in name only, but in essence. The MHP has dedicated its existence to Turkey. It has adopted the happiness of the voter, not the politician, as its goal. We will continue to do so.
The duty of each of us is to walk forward with quick steps on the path of the people without looking back, ignoring the black propaganda of the mentality that confuses minds and muddies the waters. We are aware of our duty. We are conscious of what we must do. We must bring the Turkish nation to the high position it deserves.
CALL FOR A NEW CONSTITUTION
We must withstand the counter-currents. We must reconsider the Turkish political structure according to demands and crown it with a new constitution. We must open the doors to an era in which our people will be happy in the Turkish century, by working hand in hand. We must implement permanent reforms by preparing answers to social and economic needs. We must free the Turkish economy from its chains by increasing price and financial stability and revitalizing fair and humane sharing.
The will to do this exists in the MHP and the People's Alliance. We must put aside petty squabbles. Turkey belongs to all of us; it is our common homeland. Salvation recipes offered by different capitals cannot take Turkey one step further.
The MHP is wholeheartedly committed to the democracy Turkey has achieved. The MHP respects fundamental rights and freedoms. It believes in the rule of law. It defends freedom of religion and conscience. The superpower of the future is Turkey. This ideal will be realized in 2053, the 600th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul.
THERE IS ONLY ONE GOVERNMENT IN TURKEY
The Turkish nation has delivered its verdict. The local administrators for the next 5 years have been elected. 10 months after the elections held on May 14-28, our nation went to the polls this time for the local elections. The path to 4 years without elections has been cleared. We respect the decision. May the results be auspicious. The nature of local elections is different from the nature of general elections; it is wrong to confuse the two.
There is no government structure that changed hands after March 31, where one went up and the other went down. There is no Turkey that is standing still. Those who say they have become the local government are in a dream world. There is only one government in Turkey, and that is the Presidential Cabinet.
"THE NATIONAL WILL HAS NOT BEEN FULLY REFLECTED IN THE BALLOT BOX"
It is a humorous delusion for those who cannot establish disciplinary control within their own parties to rely on the results they have achieved and deliver victory speeches. It is inevitable that those who are spoiled today will be slapped by the nation tomorrow. The turnout rate in the elections has decreased, and the national will has not been fully reflected in the ballot box. A party with a cracked ceiling will not be able to stand on its own feet; its survival depends on miracles. Those who see themselves in a funhouse mirror have no new worldview. Our nation will witness how a fleeting election success will turn into a heavy burden.
One of the factors affecting March 31 is economic difficulties. As a party, we have received our nation's message and started our work. We will continue our journey of serving our nation. There were slanderers who shamelessly wrote that our party's vote share had fallen, that we were melting away, and who talked nonsense. We have noted them all. We know very well that these gentlemen and ladies do not know the MHP.

MHP'S VOTE SHARE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS
The MHP's vote share in the provincial general assembly elections is 16.62 percent. Where is our diminishing voter support? Those who interpret March 31 as it suits them are in misery, and their hearts have hardened. The MHP has emerged from the elections successfully. No one should attempt to smear this success. The Turkish nation has seen its future in the People's Alliance. Turkish history was not written at the ballot box.
'THEATER' COMMENT ON IRAN'S ATTACK
Kiev and Moscow should shake hands in Istanbul. They must thwart the plot of the oppressors. Peace is in everyone's interest. Our wish is for the Israel-Iran tension to end and for peace to prevail in the Middle East. A theater was staged in which two states were at the forefront, almost to mask the Gaza massacre with the Iran-Israel attack. Netanyahu is a criminal. He must resign and be held accountable. Waters will not calm down, and peace will not be achieved in the Middle East until the state of Palestine is established. The essence of the MHP's foreign policy is full independence.
"HDP SHOULD BE CLOSED, IT SHOULD BE THE DEM'S TURN"
Reformist steps must be taken. Our priority is to repair the malfunctioning aspects of the Presidential government system. The HDP closure case should be concluded, and it should be the DEM's turn. It must be prevented from opening under other names.
One of the upcoming agendas should be the preparation of a civil and inclusive constitution. We are ready; we believe that shelving the coup constitution requires consensus, effort, and patience. Every demand of our nation is welcome."
