MHP's Celal Adan on Cemil Tugay: 'A regrettable event'

Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and MHP İstanbul MP Celal Adan, in a statement to journalists before the 7th Ordinary Congress of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Karabağlar District, said regarding the resignation of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay: 'For us, what is important is the preservation of stability everywhere.

The resignation of an elected mayor and his withdrawal from service is, of course, a regrettable event for the people of Izmir.'

'A REGRETTABLE EVENT'

Celal Adan also said the following regarding Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay's resignation from the CHP:

'I am saddened. Almighty God granted him the Izmir Mayoralty. While they should be working, as we see it, when we follow certain events that have taken place, it certainly saddens us that mayors stoop to certain things, get involved in bribery schemes, and end up in prison instead of serving our nation. I wish they hadn't done it. I wish they could have served properly. Izmir has many problems. Instead of addressing these problems, we are all witnessing certain developments. The Republican People's Party is the main opposition party. We hope that it maintains its own unity and that elected municipalities serve the public for the sake of Turkish democracy and Turkey's unity and solidarity. For us, what is important is the preservation of stability everywhere. Let institutions be stable. Let there be stability in political parties as well. We believe they should serve Turkey. We hope they return to this point as soon as possible. The resignation of an elected mayor and his withdrawal from service is, of course, a regrettable event for the people of Izmir. Istanbul has been left without an owner for a long time. It is a shame, it is a sin.'
