MHP sources evaluate the Özel-Bahçeli meeting: 'A major threat to Turkey'

The "sincere dialogue" between MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has led to various interpretations in politics.

While Özel evaluated this dialogue by saying, "I have not said anything politically in the morning that I had to compensate for in the evening," the MHP side objected to this statement.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, sources close to the MHP interpreted Bahçeli's words toward Özel as, "We may criticize each other in domestic politics, but we must clearly show that we are in unity and solidarity against the external public."

A SOCIETY WITHOUT UNITY FALLS APART

According to the assessments of sources close to the MHP, Bahçeli's statements toward Özel should be seen as a message given to the external public. High-level party officials stated, "Our Chairman sees the stance Özel displayed against President Erdoğan at the general assembly as 'unity against the external public' and we find this important. Bahçeli's words should be evaluated within this framework."

'A MAJOR THREAT TO TURKEY'

The MHP emphasized the motto that Devlet Bahçeli always underscores: "My country and my nation first, then my party and myself."

MHP officials pointed out that the geography where Turkey is located has been land that foreign powers have wanted to seize throughout history, and stated that the country must act in unity and solidarity against the regional threats it faces.

In the MHP's statement, it was expressed that developments around Turkey contain great dangers.

While drawing attention to the fact that Iraq has been unable to recover following the US intervention, it was stated that developments such as the situation in Iran, the Russia-Ukraine war in the North, and the presence of the PKK/PYD in Syria directly affect Turkey.

MHP officials also stated that Israel aims to seize the region with its "promised land" rhetoric and that it is within the realm of possibility that what is happening in Gaza could spill over into Turkey, and therefore underscored that Turkey must be in unity and solidarity for this reason.
