Eid visit from MHP to DEM Party: Öcalan, the process, and İmamoğlu discussed

A Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) delegation visited the DEM Party Headquarters during Eid al-Fitr to celebrate both the holiday and Nevruz. The MHP was represented by Deputy Chairman Sadir Durmaz, Chief Advisor to the Chairman Esma Özdaşlı, and Central Executive Committee (MYK) member Şahin Kartal. On the DEM Party side, Deputy Co-Chair Öztürk Türkdoğan, Mersin MP Ali Bozan, and Party Assembly member Zeyno Bayramoğlu were present.

DEM Party's Türkdoğan welcomed the MHP delegation, stating, “As you know, today is also Nevruz. On this occasion, I celebrate both our holiday and our Nevruz. May the holiday and Nevruz be blessed for our peoples. Of course, I wish for this holiday to bring peace to our region.”

Recalling that the DEM Party Co-Chairs and the MHP Chairman gave important messages yesterday, Türkdoğan spoke as follows:

"As the DEM Party, we hope that as a requirement of these messages, our 'Peace and Democratic Society' process will progress with more concrete legal regulations as soon as possible. In fact, this has moved beyond being just a wish. It has become a very serious expectation of our people to a great extent. As you know, our Parliament has released the commission report. There are important findings in the 6th and 7th sections of our report.

We expect steps to be taken toward legislating these as soon as possible. Of course, we also expect the role of Mr. Öcalan, the most important actor and main interlocutor of this process, to be acknowledged in this process. We believe that when a legal process begins in this context and a law is passed, the 'status' issue mentioned by Mr. Bahçeli will also be resolved."

Reiterating their expectations regarding political prisoners, Türkdoğan said, “I believe the MHP also has something to say regarding the release of our political prisoner friends as soon as possible. People should not be in prison because of their thoughts or political views. In our opinion, dear Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ should regain their freedom. Our friends in the Gezi trial, and especially İmamoğlu and other mayors, could be tried without arrest.”

The DEM Party reiterated its expectation for comprehensive legal changes to ensure lasting peace in the country and resolve the problems experienced in the region. Türkdoğan concluded his words by saying, “We as a party are ready. We hope that together with the MHP, we will lead the way in taking concrete steps before the next holiday arrives.”

DURMAZ: MHP IS THE MOST CONSISTENT PARTY

MHP Deputy Chairman Sadir Durmaz thanked the DEM Party delegation for their kind hospitality and celebrated their holiday and Nevruz.

Durmaz stated the following:

"Of course, as you mentioned, we are going through a process where we are struggling with very serious problems and difficulties in a very challenging geography. There are very important messages that our Chairman has given from the past to the present regarding the 'Turkey Without Terrorism' process, starting from the very first day. At the forefront of these messages, it has been emphasized every time how important it is to develop our unity, solidarity, and the law of brotherhood within ourselves.

We see concrete examples in our near geography of nations that are in the opposite situation and end up in difficult positions in this struggle of nations. For this reason, we attach importance to our unity and solidarity, and to further strengthening the law of brotherhood. In this regard, the MHP has been the most consistent party from the past to the present.

There is a situation called 'an impossible criminal act, a state of impossibility.' Despite the terror problem and difficulties experienced in our country for 50 years, Kurds and Turks have not given up on marrying each other; they have persistently continued these marriages; that is, we have chosen kinship rather than hostility. There are around 8-10 million such marriages.

There is a new generation emerging from this. If there are two children each, that's 20 million; add the parents, that's 40 million, which equals Turkey. An impossible criminal act, a state of impossibility... This situation already makes it impossible for us to make any other assessment. We are one, we are together, we are a family. We need to further strengthen this law of brotherhood."

Regarding the commission report, Durmaz said, 'We know that there are issues that will come to the Parliament's agenda for certain regulations after the holiday, regarding the matters reflected in the reports of the commission in Parliament that you mentioned.'
