Midnight tension at CHP İzmir Provincial Headquarters! 'They broke down the doors'
Following the appointment of Utku Gümrükçü to replace Çağatay Güç, who was removed from his post as İzmir Provincial President by a decision of the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) last week, party members protesting the decision began keeping watch at the provincial building. A brief tension occurred between the group supporting Gümrükçü and the party members keeping watch when Gümrükçü arrived at the provincial building for the first time. In a statement made after the events, Güç said, 'They entered by breaking down the doors with a group of 30-40 people.'
With a decision taken by the CHP Central Executive Board last week, İzmir Provincial President Çağatay Güç was removed from his post, and former Çiğli Mayor Utku Gümrükçü was appointed in his place. Following this decision, party members began keeping watch at the CHP İzmir Provincial Headquarters building.
After the appointment, Utku Gümrükçü arrived at the CHP İzmir Provincial Headquarters for the first time in the evening hours. While party members keeping watch in the building tried to prevent Gümrükçü's entry, a brief tension occurred between the group supporting him and the team at the provincial building. Later, Gümrükçü went up to the provincial presidency office. Çağatay Güç, who was in the building at the time, left the building after Gümrükçü's arrival.
SUPPORT GIVEN WITH SLOGANS IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING
Çağatay Güç, who left the building, met with the party members waiting outside. The gathered crowd supported Güç by chanting, "Free president, free future."
"THEY BROKE DOWN THE DOORS"
Addressing the crowd, Güç stated that they would continue the struggle and made the following statement:
"Towards 11:00 PM, friends, they entered the building with a group of 30-40 people by breaking down the doors. They did in the İzmir Provincial Building what they did at the Headquarters. They could have come during the day; unfortunately, they entered by breaking down the doors. Unfortunately, the CHP is currently being handled by a general manager appointed by the AKP government. We did not want this process to be like this. We told our friends, 'If you are so confident in yourselves, hold a convention,' but they did not. Because they have no support among the public.
We are patriotic people who want to live in a Republic of Turkey where justice is served and things are not unlawful. These people gathered in the middle of the night, came to our provincial building, and entered by breaking down the doors. Our women and young friends were here. As the true representatives of the CHP, we do not need buildings. We are on the streets. The streets are ours; we will continue to struggle on the streets. We will eventually put an end to this conspiracy carried out by the AKP.
Together with our Chairman Özgür Özel, we will make our country a place where we live much happier. We reiterate that we will continue to struggle in the fields, that we have received support from our people all over Turkey, and that this process will reach this point. The people are with us, power is near."
