Minister Tunç's 'boycott' reaction to Özgür Özel: 'It threatens the economy'

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç attended the sapling planting ceremony at the Martyr Public Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz Justice Forest. In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Tunç criticized the boycott call made by CHP Chairman Özel yesterday. Minister Tunç included the following statements in his speech:

“For days, lies and slanders have been produced to attack the independent and impartial Turkish judiciary, and at the expense of disrupting public order, our security forces and police are being targeted by marginal groups in a very dangerous provocation.”

Minister Tunç used the following expressions:

“Using provocative language in front of uncontrolled groups in public squares to target brands that add value to our country's growth by name, calling for a boycott, and targeting our economy in this way is a very dangerous and wrong approach. Mentioning the names of media organizations—which are the guarantors of freedom of expression and the public's right to be informed accurately, and are indispensable for democracy—with a hostile attitude and having them booed with chants is a blow to press freedom. Regardless of their editorial policy, no media organization has been targeted in this way until today.

The Turkish judiciary holds terrorists accountable, holds those who commit terrorism accountable, and holds those who engage in corruption accountable.”
