Murat Kurum makes statement regarding his defeat
AKP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Murat Kurum made a statement following the defeat. Thanking AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan, Kurum said, "We will continue to work for our nation from now on."
Appearing before members of the press after the defeat, Murat Kurum evaluated the results.
Here are the highlights from Kurum's statement:
'I would like to thank everyone who walked this path with me and worked with me for this dream. The hope of Istanbul will continue to work for Istanbul.
Wherever our nation wants to see us, we will continue to work under the leadership of our President.
We will evaluate the messages given and do what is necessary. We will work for the cause of a great and strong Turkey, and we will continue to work for our nation.
Hopefully, on this path, just as we have overcome difficult days for 22 years, we will work to bring our country to the level of contemporary civilizations, as Gazi Mustafa Kemal said.
"MAY GOD OPEN OUR PATH"
I thank our President for deeming me worthy of this duty. I thank Mr. Bahçeli. I thank all the stakeholders of the People's Alliance.
We saw that love and excitement everywhere we went. May God open our path; we will try to fulfill the duty that falls upon us in line with the will of our nation reflected in the ballot box.
We will accept today as a milestone and continue our work. We will go to our nation again; I congratulate the elected mayors.
I wish the election results to be auspicious and I embrace you all with respect and love.'
