Murder allegations were on the agenda... Statement on Ferdi Zeyrek from AKP figure: He explained the details, saying 'I spoke with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office'
Following the death of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek due to electrocution, murder allegations had surfaced after his previous statement that he was being threatened. Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar made a statement regarding the allegations. Tayyar said, 'I spoke with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office officials.'
Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, in a press conference he held on December 3, 2024, stated that certain circles were trying to pressure him through tenders, saying, "I will neither grant the tenders they want, nor will I pay the money they demand from me through threats."
These statements came back to the agenda on social media following Zeyrek's death due to electrocution at his home, and discussions began regarding whether there was a possibility of murder behind his death.
Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar stated that he had spoken with officials from the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. In a statement on his social media account, Tayyar used the following expressions:
"In summary, there is no possibility given to the suspicion of 'murder' in the investigation. The incident is being evaluated as an accident, and the focus is on negligence."
According to Tayyar's statement, Zeyrek had not made any official application to the prosecutor's office regarding being threatened. However, after his statements at the press conference, contact was established by both the prosecutor's office and the governor's office. Tayyar explained this process as follows:
"After Zeyrek's statements, contact was established with the mayor's lawyer, and they were asked if they had any complaints; they said 'no.' The governor's office also asked if he wanted additional protection, and he did not request additional protection."
Reminding that Zeyrek had said in his statement that he had explained the threats to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Tayyar said, "Perhaps Özel can share these with the public. It would be good if he shares them, because there is no threat information conveyed to the prosecutor's office or the police."
EXPERT REPORT: DEVICES WERE DEFECTIVE
According to the expert report announced by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, the pump motor in the pool section of the house where the incident occurred was defective. Furthermore, it was stated that there was no residual current device at the main entrance of the building, the relay in the pool energy room was not working, the cables were in water, and the metal parts were in a rusty condition.
CAMERA FOOTAGE AND WITNESS TESTIMONIES
Stating that all camera footage of the gated community had been examined, Tayyar said that no suspicious situation was encountered. According to the statements of eyewitnesses, information was provided that the system had malfunctioned before and that Mayor Zeyrek had tried to solve such technical problems personally.
