Müsavat Dervişoğlu reacts to 'RTÜK decisions'

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed various penalties on channels such as Halk TV, Tele 1, and Sözcü TV during its latest meeting. These penalties include broadcast suspensions and fines. RTÜK member İlhan Taşcı shared the details of these decisions in a statement made via social media.

İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu reacted sharply to these RTÜK decisions. Dervişoğlu stated, "Freedom of the press is a right guaranteed by our constitution. However, the government is restricting this freedom, reflecting its own fears." Dervişoğlu expressed that Turkey has been passing through a "tunnel of fear" for some time, and that the walls of this tunnel are built with darkness and iron bars.

Dervişoğlu evaluated RTÜK's decision to impose a 10-day broadcast suspension on Halk TV and fines on Sözcü TV and Tele 1 as an indicator of the government's pressure on the press. "Those who darken the lives of our nation cannot hide this reality by darkening screens" said Dervişoğlu, noting that the government is exerting pressure on journalists, academics, and social media users.

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS AND DEMOCRACY

Dervişoğlu criticized the government's arbitrary practices, saying, "We have never experienced a period where injustice and lawlessness were this audacious." Citing the example of the arrest of journalist Fatih Altaylı, he emphasized the government's pressure on the media. He used the expression, "Turkey's salvation lies not in oppression and injustice, but in more democracy, law, and justice."

Dervişoğlu stated that the public's right to receive accurate information is a fundamental requirement of a democratic state. Declaring, "You cannot chain the truth. You cannot imprison the word. You cannot silence the nation," he emphasized that the İYİ Party will take a determined stand in this struggle.
