Müsavat Dervişoğlu’s 'PKK' reaction to Bahçeli: Why May 4?

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu reacted sharply to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s proposal for a date and location for the PKK terrorist organization to dissolve itself.

Referring to Bahçeli’s suggestion that the PKK should dissolve at a congress to be held on May 4 at a Nevruz field, Dervişoğlu said, "You can have that congress established in Malazgirt under the presidency of a DEM Party mayor, and if you want, you can even be the chair of that congress."

In his statement, Dervişoğlu addressed Bahçeli by saying, "May God reform you," and drew attention to why the date of May 4 was chosen, using the following expressions:

WHY MAY 4?

"He is an expert at choosing special days and dates. On May 4, 1937, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey, with the signatures of the President of the time, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Prime Minister İsmet İnönü, and other government members, decided to launch the Dersim Pacification Operation. In other words, to oppose the rebellion in Dersim, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey took a decision on May 4, 1937, and suppressed the rebellion there. Separatists describe May 4 as the day the Dersim Massacre was officially launched, and they commemorate the date of May 4 as a day of great pain and mourning.

''SHAME ON YOU''

He is not saying May 4 on his own. Understand me well. This date is emphasized by Kurdish political movements and enemies of Turks in the West as an important day in terms of historical confrontation and demands for justice. Just as they took Peshmerga from northern Iraq on October 29, during Republic Day, and how they took them to northern Syria, and just as they signed the European Union Harmonization Laws in the hall where the Erzurum Congress was held, today they are using historical days as codes to express that they have adopted the theses of those who are hostile to Turkey. To those who do this, I say: 'Shame on you!'"

"YOU CAN BE THE CHAIR OF THE CONGRESS"

Pointing out that May 3 is Turkism Day, Dervişoğlu added, "Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, you can have that congress established in Malazgirt under the presidency of a DEM Party mayor, and if you want, you can even be the chair of that congress. But I will be celebrating Turkism Day in Ankara with my brothers from Antalya."
