Mustafa Bozbey speaks on 'nephew appointment': We have done what is necessary

CHP Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey had appointed his nephew, Furkan Bozbey, as the chairman of the board of directors for Bursa Kent Yapı İmar Bilişim Enerji (BURKENT), one of the municipality's subsidiaries.

While Bozbey's decision drew backlash, journalist İsmail Saymaz announced yesterday evening that Bozbey had abandoned this plan.

Mustafa Bozbey spoke on the matter for the first time.

Meeting with journalists in Bursa, Mustafa Bozbey said he wanted to clarify the issue that has occupied the agenda for the last two days.

'WE HAVE DONE WHAT IS NECESSARY'

Mayor Bozbey said, "I understand the sensitivities of our people. For this reason, I certainly care that a matter that had not yet been finalized or completed has come to the public's attention to this extent. I want the public to know that we have done what is necessary regarding this issue."

Touching upon merit-based and experienced staff in his speech, Bozbey said, "Since we woke up to a smiling Bursa on the morning of April 1st with the appreciation of our fellow citizens, we have been together to share developments with you. On this occasion, I thank all my fellow citizens who deemed us worthy of this duty again and again."

Bozbey continued his words as follows:

Being aware of the responsibility placed on our shoulders by the great desire shown for change and development in our country and our city, I want to repeat and promise in your presence that I will be the mayor of all residents of Bursa, whether they voted for me or not. We will never discriminate while finding constructive solutions for the problems of our city. We will carry out our services with common sense and in an inclusive manner.
