NATO dissent in AKP: 2 deputies voted 'against' and 2 deputies 'abstained'

NATO dissent in AKP: 2 deputies voted 'against' and 2 deputies 'abstained'

The Bill on the Approval of the Protocol on the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty passed in Parliament with 286 'In Favor', 55 'Against', and 4 'Abstentions'.

While the DEM Party, TİP, İYİ Party, New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi), Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi), and HÜDAPAR voted 'Against' the bill, the CHP, AKP, MHP, and DEVA Party mostly voted 'In Favor'.

3 DEFECTIONS IN AKP

According to the report in BirGün; when looking at the minutes of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), it was observed that there were deputies who voted 'Against' or 'Abstained' despite their parties voting 'In Favor'.

AKP Istanbul Deputy İsmail Erdem and AKP Kocaeli Deputy Cemil Yaman voted 'Against' the bill, despite Erdoğan's instructions and their party's stance. AKP Mardin Deputy Muhammed Adak, on the other hand, 'Abstained'.

2 DEFECTIONS IN CHP

A similar situation occurred in the CHP. CHP Burdur Deputy İzzet Akbulut voted 'Against', contrary to the stance of his party which voted 'In Favor', while CHP Samsun Deputy Murat Çam 'Abstained'.
