NATO Foreign Ministers Meet in Brussels: Sweden's NATO Membership and Gaza Crisis Discussed in Turkey-US Meeting

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and engaged in dialogue regarding Sweden's NATO membership process and Gaza.

Minister Fidan also came together with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. A post on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official social media account used the expressions, "The latest developments in Gaza and Sweden's NATO membership process were discussed during the meeting held ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting."

"WE HELD SUCCESSFUL TALKS"

US Secretary of State Blinken, in a statement made before the meeting, emphasized his visit to Turkey, saying, "I am pleased to be with Foreign Minister Fidan. We had very successful talks a few weeks ago during my visit to Ankara. I look forward to continuing those dialogues today."

THE ISSUE OF SWEDEN'S NATO MEMBERSHIP

Blinken stated, "Our efforts to deal with the crisis in Gaza continue. As we move toward NATO's 75th anniversary summit in June, there are uncertainties observed regarding issues such as Sweden's NATO membership. Furthermore, Russia's aggressive stance toward Ukraine continues. We value the opportunity to share our thoughts with Turkey on these and many other issues. Turkey is a vital ally for NATO, and we are grateful for our cooperation."

Foreign Minister Fidan expressed the following: "As Tony also emphasized, we are here today to attend the NATO Ministerial Meeting. We have very critical issues ahead of us, and I am sure we will have sincere and open discussions. We attach great importance to our friendship and cooperation."
