New judicial step regarding İmamoğlu's diploma case

The footage from the hearings in the "diploma" case, in which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried, had created a stir, particularly due to İmamoğlu's interactions in the courtroom. Following criticism from the ruling party, the judicial administration took action and implemented an important regulation. From now on, the coordination and allocation of courtrooms for all hearings to be held in prison campuses will be managed by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

NEW REGULATION FROM JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION

According to a report by the Sabah newspaper, the allocation and usage procedures for courtrooms have been redefined with the new regulation. Before hearings, courts will be required to submit a formal request to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to reserve a courtroom in the prison. The request will need to specify details such as the number of defendants, complainants, attorneys, witnesses, and other parties involved in the hearing.

In a letter sent on October 22, the allocation and usage procedures for the 9 courtrooms at the Marmara Penal Execution Institution campus were reorganized. The letter, signed by Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Duman, stated: "Courts requesting the same courtroom without being aware of each other causes disruptions in planning. In order to ensure the effective and efficient use of public resources, security measures, and appropriate courtroom planning based on the number of parties in a file, all requests must be coordinated through the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."

Under the new system, courts will submit their requests to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office before holding hearings in prisons. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will consider the requests, plan the courtrooms accordingly, and decide which courts will use which rooms.

INTENSE INTEREST IN İMAMOĞLU'S HEARING

There had been high attendance at the hearings held in the courtroom at Silivri Prison for Ekrem İmamoğlu. İmamoğlu's interactions with bar association lawyers and observers had drawn reactions from the ruling party. Presidential Chief Advisor Oktay Saral made a statement regarding the courtroom footage of İmamoğlu and called on the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK).

Saral had said, "Who is letting this person put on these shows? Trials should be closed to the press. Bringing devices such as phones or video cameras into the courtroom is prohibited. Given this, the court panel that turned a blind eye to this filming should be immediately suspended. I invite the HSK to take action."
