New move from Erdoğan: He appointed a Bar Association president as AKP Provincial Chair
The Kahramanmaraş Bar Association President has been appointed as the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Chair by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Kahramanmaraş Bar Association President lawyer Muhammed Burak Gül has been appointed as the AK Party Kahramanmaraş Provincial Chair by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Gül shared the decision on his social media account with the note: “With the approval of our Chairman, our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, I have been appointed to the position of AK Party Kahramanmaraş Provincial Chair. I would like to express my gratitude to our President for this honorable and sacred duty he has entrusted to me. The name of hope, action, and the future is AK Party at 23 years old.”
It was stated that Gül will continue his duties as Bar Association president until the election in October, and it was observed that he has been actively sharing AK Party content on his social media accounts following the appointment.
'THIS SITUATION IS NEITHER MORAL NOR ETHICAL'
Speaking to Cumhuriyet, former Istanbul Bar Association President lawyer Turgut Kazan said, “This situation is neither moral nor ethical. Furthermore, given the citizens' concerns regarding the judiciary, especially with many question marks surrounding the earthquake cases, such a choice also wounds the public conscience.” Inviting Gül to resign in his capacity as a former bar president, Kazan stated, “I believe that bar members should also make a call regarding this matter. Please, stop playing with the law this much.”
‘HE SHOULD NOT REMAIN FOR A SINGLE DAY’
Pointing out that Gül has been involved in many cases in his capacity as bar president, CHP Kahramanmaraş Deputy Ali Öztunç said the following:
“A provincial chair of a party, especially the provincial chair of the ruling party, cannot hold such a position even for a single day. When this person goes to court cases, he will be the AKP provincial chair in the eyes of judges and prosecutors. How will judges who fear being punished in the opposite scenario make a fair decision? What is happening is another example of the politicization of the judiciary by the ruling power, which is incompatible with impartiality. Soon they will make provincial chairs judges too.”
