WHAT HAPPENED?
The 'new resolution process' began following a call made by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli at his parliamentary group meeting. In his remarks from the party podium, Bahçeli stated, 'Let Öcalan speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and announce the dissolution of the PKK. In return, let him benefit from the right to hope.' Bahçeli later stated that he stood behind every sentence he had uttered.
Bahçeli's call received support from the DEM Party and from President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan.
Following these calls, DEM Party members Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan held a meeting at İmralı. After the meeting with PKK leader Öcalan, the DEM Party released a written statement.
