New statement from İmamoğlu titled 'To those who hear, to those who do not'

CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, issued a six-point statement via social media criticizing the "criminal organization" allegations leveled against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) administration.

İmamoğlu emphasized that between 2019 and 2024, the AKP held the majority in the İBB Council and that an AKP member served as the head of the Audit Commission. He stated that throughout this period, the commission did not file any reports or criminal complaints regarding any illegal activity, irregularity, or corruption concerning him.

In his statement, he included the following: "The AKP Audit Commission Chair and members, who did not file a single lawsuit; are either members or managers of the so-called 'criminal organization' we are alleged to have established, and have turned a blind eye to the activities of this so-called criminal organization, or there is no 'criminal organization' or crime at all, and the allegations are nothing more than a 'fabrication'."

Drawing attention to the Audit Commission's authority, İmamoğlu noted that all İBB units were comprehensively audited for five years, with a focus on issues such as domestic and foreign loans, excavation sites, real estate transactions, and public losses. He noted that despite the harsh speeches and correspondence made by AKP members in the council, these did not result in any legal action.

İmamoğlu's statement is as follows:

"TO THOSE WHO HEAR, TO THOSE WHO DO NOT

1. Within the framework of the powers determined under the Municipalities Law and legislation, the İBB Council Audit Commission has the right to audit İBB units 360 degrees.

2. Between 2019 and 2024, the İBB council majority belonged to the AKP group.

3. For 5 years, the İBB Council Audit Commission was chaired by an AKP council member, and the majority consisted of AKP council members.

4. For 5 years, the audit commission, consisting of an AKP chair and a majority of AKP members, audited the İBB with the strongest powers. All units were audited in every field; including the use of domestic and foreign loans, excavation dumping sites and their licenses, real estate purchases and sales, and the issue of public loss.

5. During the report formation process and in council speeches, the AKP audit commission chair and members made the harshest speeches and correspondence following council activities related to the obstruction of some of our services, and searched for irregularities and corruption.

6. For 5 years, this commission did not file a single report, criminal complaint, or lawsuit regarding the Ekrem İmamoğlu era. They did not state that they found a single irregularity, illegal situation, or corruption.

CONCLUSION: The AKP Audit Commission Chair and members, who did not file a single lawsuit; are either members or managers of the so-called 'criminal organization' we are alleged to have established, and have turned a blind eye to the activities of this so-called criminal organization, or there is no 'criminal organization' or crime at all, and the allegations are nothing more than a 'fabrication'.
