New Year messages from Özgür Özel: Call to the government on Syria

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made important assessments regarding Turkey's agenda in his New Year's message released ahead of 2025. In his message, Özel made statements on a wide range of topics, from economic problems to Syria policy, and from local elections to the goals of the Turkey Alliance.

'2024 ASSESSMENT'

Drawing attention to the difficulties of the past year, Özel used the following expressions:

"As we started 2024, we had good wishes for every area of life. But unfortunately, we experienced a year in which the bad trend in the economy continued, millions of our citizens were impoverished, and lawlessness increased. We have left behind a year in which workers, women, children, and even babies were not safe, and the wounds of the February 6, 2023 earthquakes could not yet be healed."

CALL TO THE GOVERNMENT FOR SYRIA POLICY 

Touching upon the developments in Syria, Özel stated that Turkey has four priorities:

Protecting the territorial integrity of Syria,

Establishing a regime that respects human rights,

Ensuring the safety of our soldiers and the peace of our citizens,

Preparing a program through which Syrians can return to their countries safely.

Calling on the government, Özel said, “The 13-year-old wrong Syria policy has caused great suffering for Turkey. I invite you to take the right steps.”

'WE ARE WORKING WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING THE FIRST PARTY'

The CHP leader also emphasized the successes achieved in the March 31 local elections:

"Despite all the difficulties in the past year, we crossed an important threshold for the future of Turkey. We made our party the first party of Turkey after 47 years. Our nation entrusted municipalities corresponding to 65% of the population and 80% of the economy to CHP mayors. With the responsibility of being the first party, we continue to provide services to all segments of society."

''WE WILL GROW THE TURKEY ALLIANCE SQUARE BY SQUARE''

Expressing his hopes for 2025, Özel said:

"2025 will be a year of much greater struggle. We will continue to meet with our people all over Turkey. We will grow the Turkey Alliance square by square. We will achieve the goal of full membership in the European Union and build a strong social state. We will end poverty and offer our youth a future where they can realize their dreams in Turkey."

Özgür Özel concluded his message with these words:

"On this occasion, I celebrate the New Year of our 86 million citizens. I wish our athletes greater success and send my greetings to our Mehmetçik (Turkish soldiers). I wish mercy upon all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this homeland. I hope for a year in which politics produces solutions, not fights."
