No denial came: Devlet Bahçeli sent a poem by Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı to PKK leader Öcalan

Journalist Ruşen Çakır claimed in a statement on July 11 that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had sent a poem to Abdullah Öcalan. According to the claim, Bahçeli sent Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's poem "I Want a Homeland" to Öcalan.

Öcalan's remarks regarding this poem and Bahçeli were also noteworthy. According to what Çakır conveyed, Öcalan stated, "There are no statesmen. The only statesman after Atatürk is Bahçeli. Bahçeli sent me a poem. He made that valuable call. Bahçeli said, 'I respectfully salute the architect of the process.' I took his hand, I did not leave it hanging in the air. If I hadn't taken it, history would have been wrong."

NO DENIAL CAME, NEW NAMES CONFIRMED

While no denial regarding this claim came from the MHP or Bahçeli's side, other journalists also made similar statements on the subject. On August 5, Fatih Altaylı also conveyed the same information in his column. Altaylı confirmed that Bahçeli had sent a poem to Öcalan.

Another notable statement came from journalist Ertuğrul Özkök. In his column on 10haber, Özkök wrote that the poem Bahçeli sent to Öcalan was Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's "I Want a Homeland" poem.

THE FULL TEXT OF THE POEM HAS EMERGED

Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's "I Want a Homeland" poem, which is at the center of the discussions, is as follows:

I want a homeland

Where the sky is blue, the branch is green, the field is yellow;

Where it is a land of birds and flowers.

I want a homeland

Where there is no trouble in the head, no longing in the heart;

Where there is an end to brotherly strife.

I want a homeland

Where there is no rich-poor, no you-me difference;

Where everyone has a home and hearth on a winter day.

I want a homeland

Where living is from the heart, like loving;

Where if there is a complaint, it is only about death.
