CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made a statement to the press regarding his upcoming meeting with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"WE WILL REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT"
Özel answered questions from the press and stated the following:
"We will, of course, request an appointment. We held a meeting with our parliamentary group today, and we have a long Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting tomorrow. The Party Assembly will meet in the afternoon. I have convened the Party Assembly 13 times in two months, and it will continue to meet frequently from now on. On Saturday, our provincial chairs and mayors will come together separately and then jointly for a very special working meeting on Saturday and Sunday.
The five permanent members of the delegation led by Yılmaz Büyükerşen will attend the first meeting to evaluate the election results and determine a roadmap for what comes next. I also intend to hold a long meeting with our party group. After that, I will formulate the agenda for the meeting I will have with the President on my own behalf, and we will request an appointment from the President.
WHAT WILL BE THE SUBJECT OF THE MEETING?
This meeting is not a courtesy visit; we already held a courtesy conversation over the phone during the holiday. This is a political meeting regarding the future of Turkey, between the chairman of the party that came in first in the last elections and serves municipalities that provide services to 80 percent of Turkey's economy and 65 percent of its population, and Mr. Erdoğan, who is the chairman of a party and was elected to the presidency in the previous elections. We would have held a courtesy meeting quickly, but Mr. Erdoğan also stated that there are issues to discuss. I will also have important agenda items. I am receiving input from my party group on this matter. After maturing this, I hope for a long and constructive meeting—not just a short one—where we might negotiate the agendas in advance, and I believe we will achieve results, entering a process that could be meaningful for Turkey from now on. Therefore, I need to complete all contacts with internal party bodies before that meeting. I will even go to the final stage after taking the opinions of each of our former chairmen. It will not be delayed much, but the private offices will handle it according to Mr. Erdoğan's schedule in the coming week or the week after."
