Number of MPs drops to 30: Striking comment on resignations from an İYİ Party official
Speaking about the resignations in the İYİ Party, an official said, "We are struggling to understand these latest resignations. They were unexpected departures. A hand is constantly pulling the party down."
Entering the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) with 43 MPs in the May 14 General Elections, the İYİ Party has lost exactly 13 MPs in approximately 1.5 years.
In the İYİ Party, where news of resignations has been coming one after another, Kayseri MP Dursun Ataş and İzmir MP Ümit Özlale departed last week. With the latest resignations, the number of İYİ Party MPs has dropped to 30.
According to the report in Gazete Duvar, an official who reacted to the resignations in the İYİ Party made the following assessment: “We are struggling to understand these latest resignations. They were unexpected departures. After all, we went through a party congress process. We set out on a new path. The chairman is carrying out intensive activities to ensure unity and integrity within the party. We are conducting internal discussions in a broad and transparent manner. While our votes had dropped significantly, we started to show signs of movement again, being measured at 5-7 percent. However, despite the positive trend, we are constantly taking a hit. A good work step comes, followed immediately by a resignation. A hand is constantly pulling the party down.”
Despite the constant loss of momentum, some officials who say “I will be the last one to close the door of the İYİ Party” stated that citizens will see a more effective İYİ Party opposition in the field after the 7th anniversary of its founding on October 25.
