Öcalan's new message read in Diyarbakır: 'The coming period is a period of reconstruction for the Kurdish society'

At the Democratic Unity Initiative conference held in Diyarbakır with the participation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), and various non-governmental organizations, a message sent by Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, was read.

The letter from the terrorist leader is as follows:

“Dear participants,

The ability of a society to sustain its existence is directly linked to its power to transform itself according to the realities of the age. No social structure that does not change, does not transform, and cannot rebuild its own internal dynamics on a democratic foundation can be permanent.

Kurds, however, have been deprived of the opportunity to carry out this transformation in its natural course due to the policies of denial, annihilation, and oppression they have been subjected to for many years. The fundamental issue before us today is how the Kurdish society will become a modern democratic society.

Kurds are a reality with their history, language, culture, and social fabric. The sustainability of this reality depends on their ability to assert their own will in the fields of politics, economy, education, health, and culture. This is only possible through strong political and social institutionalization. A democratic society requires a conscious process of construction. This construction cannot be achieved through violence or imposition. It is possible through multi-faceted social organization carried out on the basis of democratic politics and law. Re-evaluating sociality, economy, culture, language, and history according to democratic principles forms the basis of this process. Democracy finds life where there is no force or oppression.

For this reason, the Kurdish society must base its restructuring on democratic principles not only against the outside but also in its own internal relations. While advocating for democratic solutions and negotiations in relations with nation-states, we must base our internal affairs on democratic politics and law, not violence. The path to democratic unity passes through democratic negotiation.

One of the most fundamental problems of the Kurdish people is the problem of unity. Therefore, democratic unity is a historical necessity. The convening of a comprehensive democratic unity congress is an urgent task in terms of revealing a common mind and a common will. While Kurds seek solutions through democratic negotiation in the countries where they live, they must also resolve the problems among themselves using the same method.

However, a system of narrow relations that is tribal, clan-based, and fragments society stands as a significant obstacle before this process. This mentality has weakened the social structure and created serious damage. It is not possible to build democratic unity without confronting this reality. It is possible to create a social atmosphere that has left internal conflicts behind and is based on mutual respect. The way to achieve this is by making democratic principles dominant in all areas of life. Spreading this understanding step by step to society, starting with political structures, is the most important task of the coming period.

The coming period is a period of reconstruction for the Kurdish society. The foundation of this reconstruction will be democratic unity, democratic politics, and democratic negotiation. Every step taken on this basis will determine our common future.
