Was Öcalan's call text recorded on video? 'A state official came'
In the new peace process initiated by the call of MHP leader Bahçeli, PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan issued a joint statement with the DEM Party delegation. Whether a video recording of Öcalan's call text was made has become a topic of discussion. Journalist İsmail Saymaz shared the prominent details from the call text.
A very critical development occurred yesterday during the peace process that has restarted with the call of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli. The leader of the PKK terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan, issued a joint written statement together with DEM Party officials.
Ahmet Türk read the Kurdish version of the call text written by the terrorist leader Öcalan, while Pervin Buldan read the Turkish version.
The call included a demand for the PKK terrorist organization and other elements in the region to lay down their arms.
The most discussed topic in the latest developments has been whether the statement by the terrorist leader Öcalan was recorded on video.
Journalist and Halk TV writer İsmail Saymaz said, 'A video was taken while Öcalan was reading the text.' Here are the highlights from İsmail Saymaz's article:
A video was taken while Öcalan was reading the text
While Öcalan was reading the text he wrote, with his delegation and cellmates beside him, a state official recorded a video. The footage was not given to the delegation. Only one frame was shared.
This is the latest photo of Öcalan, who was last seen in 2015…
We do not know if Öcalan's video will be released in the coming days. However, it is certain that "those who need to watch it will watch it."
PKK HAD DISBANDED ITSELF
The PKK had disbanded itself 26 years ago
The PKK is expected to initiate a process of laying down arms and disbanding itself in accordance with Öcalan's call. However, we will see over time whether the process will be completed, extended, or interrupted.
After Öcalan was captured, the PKK announced in 1999 that it had laid down its arms and disbanded itself in 2002, taking the name KADEK. The organization returned to the name PKK in 2005 and continued its terrorist activities.
In this respect, one must be cautious.
ON WHAT BASIS OF CONCILIATION DID HE MAKE THE CALL?
On the other hand, we do not know on what basis of conciliation Öcalan made the call for the organization to lay down arms and disband.
The prevailing view is that a formula may have been agreed upon in Syria with the proposal of the USA and the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq. Just as the HTS, which seized power in Syria, is not considered a terrorist organization today, we may encounter a PYD autonomy in the north of the country in the future. The PYD could be forced into an evolution similar to the HTS. This is not a possibility to be dismissed.
The government's need for 'DEM-ing'
The PKK laying down its arms and disbanding is a development of historical importance.
Turkey can get rid of this terror scourge that has become a shackle on its feet for 41 years, cost it 50 thousand lives, and drained its resources. By solving the Kurdish issue, it can both win over Kurdish citizens whose sense of belonging to the state has been shaken and build an exemplary democracy and state of law. This possibility, of course, depends on what the government expects from its search for a 'solution'.
The People's Alliance sees that it will lose its power because the DEM Party and its predecessors have acted with the CHP since the 2017 referendum and positioned themselves in the opposition. It wants to pull the DEM Party into a neutral zone through Öcalan. It may be hoping to get the DEM Party's votes in a vote that would provide Erdoğan with the opportunity for a presidential candidacy or in a constitutional amendment.
Let only Apo speak, let everyone else be silent
Since the fact that the People's Alliance is reaching out to the DEM Party because it sees its power at risk is also seen by the base of this party, there is a tremendous lack of trust.
How could there not be?
Last week, politicians, journalists, and activists who had never touched a weapon were arrested in an operation targeting the legal structure called the Peoples' Democratic Congress.
The day before yesterday, a trustee was appointed to the Kağızman Municipality.
Yesterday morning, CHP's Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was detained after his house was raided at 4 AM.
At noon, it emerged that journalist Nevşin Mengü had been sentenced to 15 months in prison for terrorist organization propaganda due to an interview with Salih Müslüm of the PYD.
CHP mayors, journalists, and even an astrologer are still in prison…
Investigations are opened against İmamoğlu every day.
A country where only Öcalan can speak—and only because it suits the government—and where dissidents are pressured, investigated, tried, and arrested by being accused of being PKK members or terrorists, cannot solve the Kurdish issue without democratizing and returning to the rule of law.
