On the day Parliament opens, Bahçeli targets the CHP! 'This immoral political stance...'
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli has issued a statement regarding the Republican People's Party's (CHP) decision to protest the opening session of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Bahçeli stated, "The Veteran Parliament is not a random protest area or a field for recklessly fueled political recklessness."
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli issued a written press statement regarding the announcement that the CHP would protest the opening session of the 4th Legislative Year of the 28th Term of the TBMM.
"THERE IS NO TIME TO BE WASTED ON SHALLOW AND BARREN VERBAL DUELS"
MHP Chairman Bahçeli expressed his hope that the necessary legal regulations would be resolved in the new legislative year and used the following expressions:
"The 4th Legislative Year of the 28th Term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will open today with a special agenda session, and thus committee and general assembly work will begin. There is no time to be wasted on ordered tensions or shallow and barren verbal duels. It must never be forgotten that the Turkish nation deserves a service-oriented and dignified political understanding, and constructive and responsible legislative activities based on moral foundations."
"THE VETERAN PARLIAMENT IS NOT A RANDOM PROTEST AREA OR A FIELD FOR RECKLESSLY FUELED POLITICAL RECKLESSNESS"
Stating that the TBMM is the place where the national will is manifested and the place where the National Struggle was secured, Bahçeli said, "With this characteristic and identity, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey possesses and holds a sacred and exceptional quality that founded the state, managed armies, and gave meaning and spirit to democracy. The Veteran Parliament is not a random protest area or a field for recklessly fueled political recklessness. Loyalty and adherence to the historical respect it carries is the common responsibility and obligation of everyone, especially the esteemed deputies serving under the roof of the Parliament.
According to the statements made, it is understood that the Republican People's Party will not attend today's opening session, nor the reception where our President (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) will be present. This immoral political stance and preference of the CHP is not only a disrespect to our President; it is an intense attack on the historical majesty and heritage of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, as well as on the principles and foundations of democracy and the will of the Turkish nation.
This grave situation is not the exercise of a right, but the arson of existing national and democratic rights. Indeed, a new one will be added to the egregious mistakes made. The Republican People's Party is documenting that it is against the founding and establishment foundations of the Republic of Turkey. Intolerance in advance of the speech our President will make, and furthermore, the articulation of Trump-authorized coup allegations by the mouth of the CHP Chairman himself, is political ignorance, and beyond that, a totalitarian immorality that disregards democracy.
The fact that the new legislative year will remain in the shadow of baseless and meaningless legitimacy debates shows that the crisis vortex in which the Republican People's Party is trapped is expanding. Our President, whose legitimacy is being questioned, was elected and took office with 52 percent of the vote.
The search to question and dilute this election is, first and foremost, an insult to our nation and an attempt at rebellion against the state and democracy. The Republican People's Party must directly demonstrate the courage, prudence, and virtue to turn back from this scandalous mistake. The exact opposite insistence and stubbornness will only accelerate the melting of this party," he said.
