Open call to the government from Özgür Özel: 'Do not poison the holiday'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has reacted to the detention of young people who were protesting the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Making a statement on his social media account, Özel stated that the young people should be released as soon as possible, saying, "I am in Trabzon now; my first task tomorrow afternoon will be to go to Silivri."

'YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE IN PRISON DURING THE HOLIDAY'

Many young people who protested İmamoğlu's arrest were detained, and some were transferred to Silivri Prison. CHP leader Özel reacted sharply to this situation, stating, "The place for children during the holiday is not courthouses or prisons, but with their loved ones."

"The place for children during the holiday is not courthouses or prisons, but with their loved ones. 

Issuing arrest warrants for charges that do not even carry a single day of jail time and keeping young people in prisons that you have turned into concentration camps during the holiday shows your true face. 

Do not persecute our young people, who are the future of this country, and their parents just because you are afraid of competing with Ekrem İmamoğlu. 

Do not poison the holiday for this nation.

Release our diamond-like children and young people immediately on the eve of the holiday.

We are your opponents. If you have the courage, come and compete with us at the ballot box!

Let the nation decide.
