Open letter from Istanbul University graduates regarding İmamoğlu's diploma! 'Cancellation of the diploma is not possible'

On behalf of the graduates of the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, a statement was issued regarding the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations that the university diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, a presidential candidate nominee for the CHP, is fake.

"Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration graduates" In the signed open letter, it was stated that as graduates of the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, they are deeply saddened by the tarnishing of the faculty's name for certain political purposes.

The letter stated that at the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, founded in 1968, the existing system, principles, and rules, as well as the historical traditions of Istanbul University, have been strictly adhered to from the day of its establishment until today, from the moment a student enrolls until graduation. It was further noted that thanks to the meticulous and diligent attitude of both academic and administrative staff, no fake, false, or unearned diplomas have been issued to date, and the following was recorded:

"For this reason, the diploma received by every student who successfully completes more than forty courses within the framework of the regulations is as legitimate as mother's milk. Since there was no decision prohibiting lateral transfers from Girne American University 35 years ago, it is impossible to speak of any fault on the part of either the student or the administration regarding lateral transfers made by taking into account all the conditions specified in the announcement issued by Istanbul University.

A lateral transfer made in accordance with the conditions determined in an announcement issued by the Istanbul University Rectorate 35 years ago is now being questioned for political purposes, and as a result of the pressure placed on our Dean to cancel a diploma, our Dean has unfortunately been forced to resign. We would like to state, on behalf of all graduates, that we strongly condemn this scandal, which we are encountering for the first time.

To date, thousands of students have graduated from our Faculty's undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Among them are hundreds of politicians, statesmen, bank managers, executives of international organizations, artists, and many academics. To provide an idea about our faculty's graduates, a few names who have left a mark in our society's memory in different fields are listed below.

"IT WILL DEEPLY UPSET HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY GRADUATES"

The Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration is the only state higher education institution to hold AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation. This accreditation is an indicator not only of an educational program conducted at international quality and standards from a scientific perspective, but also that administrative processes such as registration, grading systems, and graduation procedures are at international standards. This accreditation has ensured that diplomas obtained from the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration are valid not only in our country but all over the world. We are of the opinion that it is legally impossible to cancel this diploma, which was earned 30 years ago in accordance with the regulations of Istanbul University and the Faculty of Business Administration.

As Istanbul University graduates, we wish to hold onto the hope that the administrators of Istanbul University will not make a decision that would lead to such a scandal. If the administrators of Istanbul University decide to cancel this diploma for political purposes in a manner unbecoming of our ancient university, this decision will deeply sadden hundreds of thousands of Istanbul University graduates and will never be erased from their memories. We respectfully submit this to the attention of our society."
