Open support for Numan Kurtulmuş from Nagehan Alçı: What is there to cause such an uproar?
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, whose remarks regarding Article 3 of the Constitution sparked controversy, stated, "I criticized the mentality that prioritizes the state, not Article 3." Kurtulmuş said he was not worried about the criticisms. Journalist Nagehan Alçı, commenting on Kurtulmuş's words, asked, "What did Numan Bey say to cause such an uproar?"
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, whose remarks regarding Article 3 of the Constitution created an agenda, has responded to the debates.
Speaking to Nagehan Alçı from HaberTürk, Kurtulmuş stated that his speech at Gazi University was misunderstood, saying, "My speech was a very holistic one. I drew attention to two points there: the spirit of the Constitution and the goal of creating a constitution purged of the coup-plotting, statist mentality. I did not target Article 3 in any way; I was talking about a mentality."
WE ARE CONFIDENT IN OURSELVES
Kurtulmuş expressed that he was not worried about the criticisms directed at him following the debates, saying, "We are confident in ourselves, what we have done, and what we want to do. Nothing will happen. What saddens me the most is that politicians speak with the language of trolls. That is very painful."
Stating that he never felt worried due to the wave of criticism, Kurtulmuş said, “We are confident in ourselves, what we have done, and what we want to do. Nothing will happen. Do you know what saddens me the most here? (Pointing to the opposition) That politicians speak with the language of trolls. That is very painful.”
WHAT HAD KURTULMUŞ SAID?
The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) had said that the phrase in Article 3 of the Constitution, "The indivisible integrity of the state with its territory and nation," should also be changed, stating, "The state does not have a territory. The state does not have a nation. This text should be expressed as 'The indivisible integrity of the nation with its state and territory.' I think it is important that this elitist, statist mentality be reconsidered in the new constitution with a state understanding that rises upon the power of the nation."
WHAT DID NUMAN BEY SAY TO CAUSE SUCH AN UPROAR?
Journalist Nagehan Alçı, regarding the words spoken by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş about Article 3 of the Constitution, said the following:
''I am watching the storm of criticism regarding Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş with surprise.
If we cannot talk about anything, how will we make a constitution?
What did Numan Bey say to cause such an uproar?
"The state does not have a nation, the nation has a state."
Is this approach wrong?
In essence, what is the difference between this and President Erdoğan’s words, "We established the understanding of 'human first, then state,' not 'state first'?"''
