Operations targeting IMM and İmamoğlu cause concern within AKP

In the third wave of operations carried out as part of a corruption investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, detention warrants were issued for 22 suspects. This development has caused debates within the AKP. Party officials, stating that the operations could harm the dissolution process of the PKK terrorist organization, are expressing the view that "Now is not the time for conflict with the opposition."

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, some sources within the AKP are expressing concern that the operations could weaken the party's public support. It is noted that, especially following the protests that began after the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the operations could lead to the opposition gaining strength through a narrative of victimhood.

In assessments made from within the party, it is emphasized that a more peaceful approach should be adopted and that new heroes should not be created.

These criticisms coming from the AKP show that some segments within the party are worried about the political consequences of the operations. Party sources state that the priority is to explain the process to the public correctly and that conflict with the opposition will not provide any benefit during this period.
