Özgür Özel calls on the opposition to 'regroup' and 'unite': 'If there is no spark in your eyes, this won't work'

CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel, who has announced his candidacy for the CHP chairmanship, said, "There is a need for the opposition to regroup, gather, and unite. What is needed? When people say opposition, everyone turns and looks, but they look into the eyes of the main opposition; if there is no spark in your eyes, this won't work."

Özgür Özel calls on the opposition to 'regroup' and 'unite': 'If there is no spark in your eyes, this won't work'

CHP Group Chairman and General Chair Candidate Özgür Özel, speaking at a press conference held in front of the party building during his visit to the CHP Antalya Provincial Headquarters, stated that they experienced great sadness after the May 14 and 28 elections, that they could not recover for days, and that they were left speechless.

"IF THERE IS NO SPARK IN YOUR EYES, THIS WON'T WORK"

Emphasizing that a great emotional detachment occurred among party members and especially among the youth who voted for the CHP at the end of this process, Özel continued as follows:

"A process has been entered into that we all follow with sadness, that you have all seen and heard, with people saying 'I won't vote from now on', 'I won't go to the ballot box anymore', 'It seems this won't work', which we fear greatly and which some are very pleased with. If the opposition's shoulders slump in a country, the 'one-man' walk becomes more upright. If the opposition looks at the ground in a country, the 'one-man' sets his sights on bigger goals. It is clear that when participation in the opposition drops, the other side will skyrocket in percentage and gain a legitimacy it does not deserve. Especially with local elections ahead of us. Given the high morale, alliance capacity, unity, and moral superiority of the opposition in the last local elections, this current situation harbors a great danger. So what is needed then? Then there is a need for morale. What is needed? There is a need for the opposition to regroup, gather, and unite. What is needed? When people say opposition, everyone turns and looks, but they look into the eyes of the main opposition; if there is no spark in your eyes, this won't work. This is change. This is rejuvenation. This is the issue we call setting out with great hope from the congress to be held on November 4-5; it is the name of this excitement, this standing up, this hoping again, this uniting, and not surrendering."

Özel argued that some are waiting for the CHP to emerge damaged from the congress process, stating that he would never make destructive or damaging statements or expressions in public against CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the party that would become a problem for the party the next day.

EMPHASIS ON 'CHP IS ONE AND WHOLE'

Emphasizing that the CHP is one and whole, Özel said, "Of course, I am a candidate for the general chairmanship. We are explaining how I will manage the party better, without breaking or hurting our general chair, but why younger, more dynamic cadres who read the realities of Turkey directly are part of a movement for change. We will continue to explain."

Özel promised that he would not leave the CHP organization with its head bowed, either materially or spiritually, and that he would not do anything for which he could not be held accountable, noting that the lights of the provincial building would not be turned off early on election nights.

Asking party members to ask everyone whose mind and conscience they believe in, "What happens if there is change in the CHP? What happens if there is no change?", Özel stated, "We have no doubt that you will put your hand on your conscience, that you will do what you hear with your own ears rather than what is whispered into them, that you will do what you see with your own eyes, that the delegate, whose jugular vein pulses with love for Atatürk and the party in the 100th year of the Republic, will do the right thing when they enter the voting booth, and that they will show the will to lift the organization up, lift the party up, first change the CHP, and then change the government in Turkey."
