Özgür Özel hits back hard at Çankaya operation: 'We are standing tall, let this be a thorn in your side'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements regarding the operation conducted against the Ankara Çankaya Municipality. Reacting to the operation, Özel claimed that the investigation was being carried out based on the statements of secret witnesses.

Özel criticized the legal basis of the operation, stating that the actions taken against the municipality were carried out through the testimonies of secret witnesses.

"SECRET WITNESS IS SLANDERING" CLAIM

Evaluating the investigation in his speech, Özel used the following expressions:

"There is a secret witness. They are slandering, and they are using that to conduct an operation on our municipality."

In his statement, Özel also criticized the prosecutors whom he claimed were assigned from Istanbul to Ankara.

HE RECOUNTED HIS CONVERSATION WITH HÜSEYIN CAN GÜNER

Sharing the phone conversation he had with Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner following the operation, Özel said that he considered cutting his program short in the morning to return to Ankara.

Özel used the following expressions regarding the conversation:

"To those who recruit operation prosecutors from Istanbul to Ankara, I say this: at 05:30 in the morning, I told Hüseyin Can, 'I can cut the program short and return.' He said, 'Chairman, you continue with your program. If you do not walk, everything stops.'"

"WE ARE STANDING TALL" MESSAGE

Continuing his speech by calling Hüseyin Can Güner "a son like my own son," Özgür Özel concluded his statement with these words:

"To those trying to stop us, to the judicial arms of the AKP, I say this: we are standing tall. Let this be a thorn in your side."
