Özgür Özel issues directive: Extraordinary meeting at CHP

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel announced that he has called the CHP Group to an extraordinary closed-door meeting at 9:00 PM following the Court of Cassation's decision not to recognize the Constitutional Court (AYM) ruling.

''THIS DEVELOPMENT IS AN ATTEMPTED UPRISING AGAINST THE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER''

In a post on X, Özel stated, "I have called our group to an extraordinary closed-door meeting at 9:00 PM today regarding the latest developments in the judiciary.

These developments cannot be taken lightly or ignored. This is beyond the crime of violating the constitution; it is an attempted uprising against the constitutional order. It must be suppressed immediately."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Constitutional Court's (AYM) ruling for the release of Can Atalay, who was elected as a Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP for Hatay in the May 14 general elections, was not recognized by the Court of Cassation.

Stating that the Constitutional Court had violated the Constitution and exceeded its authority, the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation also filed a criminal complaint against the Constitutional Court members who issued the violation ruling regarding Atalay.
