Özgür Özel's 'one-man rule' message in İzmir: 'Protect your cities'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made notable statements in İzmir regarding the local elections.

Özel stated the following:

"TUGAY'S SOLE FOCUS WILL BE İZMİR"

"Cemil Tugay is before you as someone whose sole focus, as identified in CHP profile surveys, will be İzmir—Konak, Karşıyaka, Balçova, and Dikili. He is someone who will correctly identify problems, be calm and determined, plan and execute major projects with resolve, and is expected to provide the highest level of service with a successful track record. From now on, just as before, Kırgöz's sole focus will be Dikili, and Tugay's sole focus will be İzmir. They will work, they will succeed, and they will make people smile."

"In 2019, we entered the elections with an alliance. There were alliance partner parties alongside the CHP. They had their support. In this election, there are no institutional alliances. We wanted it, we made the effort, but we were not successful. Everyone has their own reasons, which we understand and respect. However, there is an election ahead of us, and there are those who have expectations from this election.

When Recep Tayyip Erdoğan seized one-man powers with the constitutional amendment that jeopardized the regime, we were all very pessimistic. However, the voters balanced this disproportionate power in 2019. This system elects one person, and that person decides everything. When that happens, despair turns into great excitement.

"PROTECT YOUR CITIES FROM THE ONE-MAN RULE"

I am calling out from the city where I set up a tent at the age of 14; see for yourself, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whether the nation is surrendering or not! There is no alliance in Ankara. We could not reach an agreement. We are entering these elections with our own candidates, but the voters with whom we won the last elections are still there. Those voters are the ones who have love for their homeland and nation in their hearts, who object to the palace, and who object to the one-man regime. Those voters are still in Dikili, İzmir, Ankara, Istanbul, and across all 81 provinces.

All democrats, unite and protect your cities from the one-man rule, protect the republic. We are uniting and we are winning together. İzmir and Dikili will continue to be safe cities where women and young people can be heard at any hour, and where no one looks at anyone with malice. You are the guarantors of this. We trust good people. We trust those who formed the Dikili and İzmir alliance with us in the past elections. We trust the Turkey alliance."
