Özgür Özel’s local election instructions to provincial chairs! ‘Not like the AKP...’

There are approximately 4 months left until the March 31, 2024, local elections. Having left the party congress process behind, the Republican People's Party (CHP) has begun its election work.

Meeting with provincial chairs, CHP leader Özgür Özel asked party organizations to both accelerate their local election efforts and launch a broad membership drive.

"WE DISCUSSED THE PARTY'S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES"

According to a report by Cumhuriyet; CHP provincial chairs held a three-day camp last weekend. Evaluating the camp, the provincial chairs shared the information: “Our chairman first stated that the resentments formed during the congress and convention processes are now behind us. We came together at the tables set up there to evaluate what we can do for the party. We discussed the party's strengths and weaknesses. We evaluated the areas that need improvement and prepared a report. This report will be presented to the chairman within the week.”

ÖZEL’S INSTRUCTIONS TO CHAIRS

It was stated that Özel “gave instructions for a sincere membership campaign” to the chairs and said, “Conduct a sincere membership campaign, not like the AKP. Let it truly be weighted toward women and youth, and let them contribute to the party. Do not sign up fake members.”

THERE WILL BE NO UNOFFICIAL PROCESS

Stating that Özel reiterated his promise of primary elections at the meeting by saying, “The opinions of district and provincial chairs will be valued,” the chairs expressed: “We will work in our provinces within this scope. We will convey our opinions on where primary elections can be held and who the candidates might be. There will be no unofficial process. Our chairman emphasized that the process will be conducted transparently. We will carry out field work by combining the discourse we have developed according to local dynamics with the party's discourse. We will also give momentum to this work with our membership campaign.”

‘ISTANBUL IS AN EXAMPLE FOR TURKEY’

It was reported that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu gave a speech at the closing session. It was noted that İmamoğlu pointed to the work done in Istanbul as an example and said that these examples could be explained across Turkey during the local election process to show citizens the idea that “the CHP does good work.”

It was learned that İmamoğlu gave the message, “Giving us another term is giving Turkey a chance.”
