Özgür Özel meets with the public at the marketplace: 'Cemil Tugay also resigned in protest of the nullity'
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, during a visit to a marketplace in Bozkurt, Denizli, addressed recent resignations and the internal party crisis, calling on citizens to remain calm.
Visiting the local market in the Bozkurt district of Denizli, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel listened to complaints from market vendors regarding rising prices and the cost of living. Addressing the concerns of tradespeople and retirees, Özel also made statements during the conversation regarding recent developments within the party.
When a citizen at the market stated they would resign in protest of recent events within the CHP, Özgür Özel pointed to the resignation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay. Addressing the citizen, Özel said:
“In fact, yesterday the İzmir Metropolitan Mayor was angry just like you and resigned in protest of the nullity. Wait. There are legal processes, there is a political struggle, and we will somehow take this party back. If there is no other way left, we will decide together. For now, no one should leave the family home.”
'ABSOLUTE NULLITY' CRISIS IN CHP
The waters are not calming in the CHP. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was reinstated as CHP Chairman by a court decision, dismissed İzmir Provincial Chairman Çağatay Güç during a Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting and appointed Utku Gümrükçü in his place. A disciplinary process with a request for permanent expulsion has been initiated against Güç.
Following these decisions, CHP İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay met with the municipal council group. In a statement made after the meeting, it was emphasized that the dismissal of the Provincial Chairman and the MYK decision were not recognized.
Cemil Tugay subsequently announced his resignation from the CHP in a message shared on social media. In his statement, Tugay emphasized that the “Absolute Nullity” decision was harming the party, that the successive expulsion decisions contained injustice, and that the dismissal of the İzmir Provincial Chairman was wrong. Tugay expressed his reaction with the words, “The CHP of Absolute Nullity is not the roof for this struggle.”
Immediately following Tugay’s resignation, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Levent Yıldır and council members Mustafa Özuslu and Atilla Baysak also announced their departure from the CHP. As the latest developments deepen the crisis within the party, all eyes have turned to the CHP leadership.
