Özgür Özel reacts to Aziz İhsan Aktaş decision

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made striking comments regarding Aziz İhsan Aktaş and Ertan Yıldız, whose house arrest was recently lifted, following his previous remarks that "those under house arrest are out having a good time." In a statement to the press immediately after the house arrest for both individuals was lifted, Özel said the government is applying a "dual legal system."

HOUSE ARREST FOR AKTAŞ AND YILDIZ LIFTED

Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who was alleged to be the leader of a criminal organization in the controversial Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) investigation, had been placed under house arrest after benefiting from effective remorse provisions. Following the testimony provided by Aktaş, many mayors and officials were arrested. However, while there are individuals who have been imprisoned for months without an indictment being prepared, the decision for Aktaş's house arrest was lifted recently. Similarly, the house arrest for Ertan Yıldız, another individual who benefited from effective remorse, was also lifted.

CRITICISM FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP Leader Özgür Özel, in his statements on the matter, recalled his remarks that "those under house arrest are out and about," and shared observations made in Istanbul. "Some individuals were going to restaurants and conducting activities on behalf of prosecutors while under house arrest. Today, the house arrest ban for two people has been lifted," said Özel, characterizing this situation as a disregard for justice.

"A DUAL LEGAL SYSTEM IS BEING APPLIED"

Emphasizing that the practice is not part of justice, Özel said, "A dual legal system is being applied. There are great injustices." He also raised the question of what will happen to the base station records and CCTV footage he mentioned in previous press statements. "What will happen to the base station records of those going to restaurants? What will happen to the footage on the CCTV cameras? The prosecutors following this situation have been caught red-handed," he stated.

İBB INVESTIGATION: "THE INSTITUTION HAS COLLAPSED AS A WHOLE"

The CHP Chairman also criticized the controversial Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) investigation. Stating that "the functioning of the İBB has collapsed. Dirty money, bribery, and threats are everywhere," Özel pointed out that the indictment has still not been written. Emphasizing that this situation stems from the failure of the prosecutors conducting the investigation, Özel said, "Prosecutors cannot combine lies to prepare a proper indictment. This is a situation of being caught red-handed."

"PROSECUTORS CAUGHT RED-HANDED"

Continuing his harsh criticism of the prosecutors, Özel said, "While the prosecutors could not put the puzzle pieces together, they failed to reveal the real picture. This is equivalent to them being caught red-handed. For a fair trial process, this investigation needs to be urgently re-evaluated."
