Özgür Özel reacts to the dismissal of lieutenants

In a statement on his social media account, Özel said, "It is impossible for us to accept the decision made regarding the controversy that began at the Tuzla Infantry School when some lieutenants refused to wear Atatürk pins. There is no justification for imposing the same punishment on those who show disrespect to Atatürk and the lieutenants who reacted to it."

It was alleged that during the "Lieutenants incident" that began at the Tuzla Infantry School on November 10, Atatürk Commemoration Day last year, and continued on November 13, one lieutenant refused to pin an Atatürk photograph to his lapel, leading to a scuffle following the reaction of other lieutenants.
The Ministry of National Defense announced in a statement today that 7 lieutenants had been dismissed.
